| Muna was born the daughter of Trevor and Fay Heaven on the island
of Jamaica. With her father being a talented engineer and her mother
as a savvy flight purser, Muna grew up in a world of discipline with
a flare for world travel. While her father mentored her with his uncanny
business sense, her mother nourished her appetite for foreign lands
and new cultures.
Although a permanent resident of the United States, Muna was educated
primarily in the small island town of Mandeville attending Belair
Early Childhood, Primary, Secondary and High School.
Throughout these formative years Muna focused seriously on academics
but also engaged heavily in sports, especially track and field and
equestrian show jumping. Her show jumping skills were honed under
the tutelage of Mrs. Yvonne Whittingham, Mrs. Betty Waites and Mrs.
Melody Prensky from Chukka Cove and Ponderosa Farms. She credits
these sports and coaches for exposure to discipline, teamwork and
an appetite for victory.
Her passion for horseback riding continues to date and she fondly
reflects on experiences competing both on national and international
show jumping circuits. Muna has proudly represented Jamaica in Guatemala,
Panama, Canada, France, and in the US.
At the age of 15, Muna graduated from Belair High, and went on
the AFS student exchange program for a year to Belgium where she
picked up Dutch as a second language. It was in Belgium that Muna's
love for foreign languages ignited. Almost always having three dictionaries
on hand, she learnt basic French in Dutch during her year overseas.
Muna was then accepted to the Schreyer Honors College of Penn State
University where she double majored in Biology and French. In her
junior year, Muna returned to Europe to study French in Strasbourg,
France for a year. She graduated with honors from Penn State and
left with equestrian rosettes and trophies awarded to her both in
France and Pennsylvania.
Muna continued her studies in higher education pursuing joint common
and civil law degrees at the McGill University Faculty of Law in
Montreal, Canada. While at McGill, Muna enjoyed performing in theatre
for annual Law School plays and also took acting classes with the
Carter Thor Studio in Montreal.
After leaving Montreal to take the NY Bar Examination, Muna voyaged
to Madrid to pick as much Spanish as possible while awaiting her
Bar results.
Muna currently works for the Administration For Children's Services
as a litigator in child neglect cases for the City of New York.
